Annual Sanshin Day
March 4th is the annual Sanshin Day! We will host a small seminar and workshop where you can learn the sanshin scale (工工四), make the kankara sanshin and play the sanshin and sing-along. Light refreshment served. Attendance fee: $20/person Limited to 25 persons. Proof of vaccination required

About the Event
March 4th is the annual Sanshin Day (三 線の日) which is play on words; in Japanese san is three and shi is four. Started in 1993 put forward by Mr. Naohiko Uehara who is Ryukyu Radio broadcaster & producer, he is a long running Okinawan music program host.
The sanshin is an Okinawan musical instrument which was inspired by a Chinese stringed instrument sangen and has evolved into a traditional instrument of Okinawa since the 15th century during the Ryukyu dynasty era. It consist of a snakeskin-covered body, neck made from Ebony tree and three strings. The sanshin is considered the soul of Ryukuan Culture, a musical instrument that is indispensable to the traditional performing arts, such as classic Ryukyu songs and dance, Okinawan folk songs and eisa.
Following the WWII, Battle of Okinawa, kankara sanshin (sanshin made from a can) was improvised from discarded cans.

We will install a vaccine passport scanner and a sanitizing station at the gate. We allow only 25 guests for the event so that everyone can maintain a social distance of 2m.
